Snow Days and the School Calendar

Snow Days and the School Calendar
The high number of snow days we have had this year has exceeded the state allotment for school closures. The state allows for six days of forgiven time and allows Districts to request up to an additional three days of forgiven time. Clarkston requested and was granted the additional three days of forgiven time. However, even with the additional three days that were granted, we are still short days and minutes to meet the minimum hour and day requirements. Our legislators in Lansing are currently reviewing bills that could relieve all or some of the days. We are hopeful that legislation will be passed that will prevent us from having to make up days but feel we need to move forward with planning in the event there are no changes.

With not all of our buildings being closed on the same days, some will be required to make up two days of school and some of our buildings will be required to make up three days of school. Below is a break down of the changes that will be made to the calendar depending on what building(s) your students are in.

AE, BLE, NSE, CHS, SMS, RHS (Need to make up three school days)

  • May 10, 2019 becomes a full day of school for students.
  • June 6, 2019 becomes a full day of school for students.
  • June 7, 2019 becomes a full day of school for students.
  • Additional half days added on June 10, 11,12.

CE, IE, PKE, SPE, CJHS (Need to make up two school days)

  • May 10, 2019 becomes a full day of school for students.
  • June 6, 2019 becomes a full day of school for students.
  • June 7, 2019 becomes a full day of school for students.
  • Additional half days added on June 10 and 11.
We will keep you posted on any other changes based on information from the state. Thank you for your understanding.
