One look around any Clarkston Funshine preschool class, and it's easy to see why local parents voted it Clarkston's "Best of the Best" preschool for 2018. With vibrant and engaging classrooms located within Clarkston Community Schools' Early Childhood Center and on the campus of Clarkston High School, Funshine has proven itself to be one of Clarkston's most sought-after preschools since it was introduced in 1983.
Clarkston Funshine offers developmentally appropriate half-day or full-day preschool programs that promote hands-on, active learning for children ages 2-5. With a thoughtful early childhood curriculum based on years of research in the areas of learning theory and whole child development, Funshine programs offer a strong focus on the social and emotional skills needed to succeed as a learner in school and life. Additionally, classroom learning is aligned with the Clarkston Schools' K-12 curriculum, so students are well-prepared to make a seamless transition to the district's Young Fives or Kindergarten classes.
"We're honored to be named Clarkston's 'best of the best' preschool, said Early Childhood Center Director Lisa Marion. "We take great pride in nurturing Funshine students as they develop essential skills in literacy and math, positive self-esteem, resilience, and most of all, a lifelong love of learning."
"We know students connect meaning to lessons through purposeful play and social interaction. We have small classes that foster learning through exploration and encourage independence," she continued. "Each staff member has been carefully selected and trained. We require a higher standard of certification than the State mandates, which means our teachers are Michigan Certified or Early Childhood certified."
Parents appreciate that the Funshine program is designed to respect the individual growth and development progression of each student as they learn at their own pace through teacher-supported activities.
Funshine parent Courtney Eastman said, "Our family has had an exceptional experience at Funshine. The teachers and staff have gone above and beyond with each of our three children, taking the time to nurture and enforce individual academic and social growth. The curriculum has been on point for Kindergarten preparation. It's truly felt like a home away from home for nearly six years. It will be very bittersweet when our youngest graduates from Funshine next spring!"
Another Funshine parent, Jeanette Early, says, "My children love sharing about all the fun and learning they experience when at Funshine! Through their stories and smiles I'm reminded daily that they are attending the best preschool around. Thank you, Funshine staff, for keeping our children safe, making them feel loved, and teaching them so many amazing things!"
Free Great Start Readiness Program & Funshine at CHS
Clarkston Funshine also offers a free Great Start Readiness program for families who qualify, as well as a blended multi-age preschool program at Clarkston High School that offers a unique "family-like" setting. Funshine at CHS is led by two of the district's most experienced early childhood teachers, both with more than 20 years of classroom experience. The tuition and curriculum for this program are the same as Funshine at the district's Early Childhood Center, along with a few added benefits that many families enjoy, including a flexible schedule that allows parents to choose the days their child goes to school, and special connections with high school helpers who LOVE playing games, reading, and learning with Funshine's little Wolves. Small classes for more one-on-one time with teachers and high school helpers. Funshine at CHS is housed on the high school's campus with its own private, secure entrance and gated playground. Parents are invited to schedule a tour of Funshine at CHS by calling (248) 623-3514 or emailing firstname.lastname@example.org.
