CHS Student Earns $20k Coca-Cola Scholarship

Congratulations to CHS senior Kylie Kalinowski on being one of 150 students from around the country to be named a 2018 Coke Scholar! Kylie was selected from more than 150,000 students nationally (and is one of only three students from Michigan) to receive this prestigious $20,000 Scholarship Award from Coca-Cola. Kylie will attend the 2018 Scholars Weekend April 19-22, 2018, where she will participate in leadership seminars, listen to guest speakers, and have the networking opportunity of a lifetime.

Kylie says, "I can't even begin to describe the emotions I had when I was notified that I had won the Coca-Cola Foundation scholarship. As soon as I was notified, I ran downstairs and gave my mother, (Laura Kalinowski, a CHS teacher), a big hug. My mother has spent the majority of her life thus far paying off her own student loans, and knowing that her daughter would never have to be in that position made her so proud. It felt as though the largest weight in the world had been lifted off of my shoulders. Graduating from college $20,000 less in debt, perhaps with no debt at all, would be a dream come true."

She continued, "I felt a chaotic mixture of excitement, pride, and just pure joy. That day, I made a memory that I will cherish for the rest of my life - a defining moment where I felt truly proud of all that I had worked so hard to accomplish. I am so unbelievably grateful for all of the opportunities that going to school in Clarkston has given me, and I feel validated in knowing that all of my hard work has paid off."

Kylie will attend Louisiana Tech University in Ruston, Louisiana to study Computer Science with a concentration in Cyber Security. She has also secured a job at Fenway Group, a national software development company that builds programs used for Starbucks, American Airlines, Nike, and more.

Kylie says, "After I graduate with a doctorate degree, I dream of working for the Department of Homeland Security to protect my country."

We are extremely proud of Kylie and this extraordinary accomplishment!

From Superintendent Ryan: School's Out!

After the thrill of the last day of school, our normally busy schedule quickly gives way to slow mornings, late dinners, and a break from making three different varieties of peanut butter sandwiches each morning. Our attention turns to grilling, lazy summer days (at least for the kids), road-trips, and most importantly, the family time that all of this provides.
