Class of 2020 Commencement Weekend June 12-13

Class of 2020 Commencement Weekend June 12-13

Dear CHS Class of 2020 Seniors and Senior Parents,

Though we wish we could have been together tonight for the traditional CHS graduation we hoped to have, plans are taking shape for our upcoming Commencement Weekend celebration. We are pleased to share some specifics related to the events we have planned on Friday, June 12 and Saturday, June 13. (This can be found on our Senior Information website.)

Our in-person stage ceremony at Clarkston High School will be held on Friday, June 12 between 9am and 7pm. Please report to the CHS event lot at your designated time (see below) from Walters Rd. For the safety of all involved, family members must remain in the vehicle.

  • One car per family
  • No limousines or party buses
  • Only the graduate may exit vehicle (unless special assistance is needed)

9am-10am: Aberlich - Bridger
10am-11am: Brock - Diffenderfer
11am-12pm: Dolan - Goble
12pm-1pm: Godfrey - James
1pm-2pm: Janik - Luba
2pm-3pm: Lucero - Mychalowych
3pm-4pm: Nassau-Young - Prause
4pm-5pm: Prisby - Shields
5pm-6pm: Shore - Verville
6pm-7pm: Vo - Zywicki

Unlike any previous senior class, the Clarkston Class of 2020 will have the opportunity to showcase their individuality and creativity by adorning their graduation caps in ways that are unique to them. Students, post a photo of your decorated cap on social media with the hashtag #Clarkston2020 and tag Clarkston Community Schools.

On Saturday, June 13 from 12pm-4pm, we invite seniors and their families to participate in an optional "Class of 2020 Commencement Cruise." This is a fun opportunity for families to drive through town in decorated vehicles to cheers and fanfare throughout our community. This is not intended to be an invitation for groups to congregate or line the streets as we normally would for a parade, and the Oakland County Sheriff's Office has asked that you observe safe social distancing and normal traffic laws.

  • There is no set cruise route - you are your own "Cruise Director!"
  • Decorate your vehicle - be creative (sorry, no parade floats)
  • Wear your cap and gown
  • Have a parent or other adult drive so you can fully experience the cruise as a passenger
  • Be respectful, responsible and safe
  • Go SLOW
  • Roads will not be closed during this event, so please obey traffic laws (no overcrowded vehicles, leaning out windows, riding in the bed of a truck, standing up through an open sunroof, etc.)

Cruise by all of the places that have meaning for YOU, take a photo from your passenger window, and share it using #ClarkstonCruise2020.

  • Your elementary school
  • SMS, CJHS, and CHS
  • The district Board office (6389 Clarkston Rd.)
  • Your favorite local hangout
  • Your neighborhood
  • Grandma & Grandpa's house
  • The place where you work
  • Your church
  • Your favorite beach, park, or playground

...and wherever you made memories in your hometown!

The District will broadcast a virtual graduation ceremony for Clarkston High School on Saturday, June 13 at 7pm on the Clarkston Community Schools YouTube channel. Our Senior Board of students has been working tirelessly on this presentation, and we are confident that they, along with our media production team, administration, and communications department, will deliver a memorable virtual ceremony. The video will follow the format of a traditional graduation with a welcome from Board President Kelli Horst, and words from our senior speaker and administration. Students' names will be read, just as they would be in a traditional ceremony, and each student's picture will appear. Our Senior Board will share special reflections, photos, and memories; we will hear traditional graduation music by our CHS band and choir; honors will be highlighted to celebrate academic achievements. There will even be an invitation to participate in the traditional turning of the tassel.

We look forward to sharing in these memorable events with you and your family!
