The application window for 2026-2027 will open on Tuesday, May 26, 2026.  Applications will be available through Wednesday, June 24, 2026 at 3 pm.

Applications and behavior report must be submitted by 3:00 pm on Wednesday, June 9, 2026.

Credit Eligibility Requirements Grades 9-12:

Students entering grades 9–12 must meet minimum credit requirements to be eligible for enrollment through the School of Choice program.

*Applicants not meeting the minimum credit requirements for Clarkston Junior High or Clarkston High School will not be eligible for acceptance through the School of Choice application. 

*However, students in grades 9–12 who are credit deficient may still apply for School of Choice through Renaissance High School's School of Choice application.

Required Documentation:
All applicants for grades 9–12 must submit a current report card (students entering 9th grade) or transcript (students entering 10th through 12th grade), including final grades for the 2025–2026 school year, to verify eligibility.

Clarkston Community Schools Academics

Behavior Requirement:

All applicants to a School of Choice program or grade level must provide two years of behavior records as part of a complete application.

This may include a behavior report generated from the student information system of each previously attended district or the attached Student Behavior Report form.

If a student has no recorded behavior incidents, a signed statement on district letterhead—or the completed Student Behavior Report form—must be submitted by the previously attended school(s) confirming there were no behavior concerns.

Behavior reports or signed statements can be obtained by contacting the student’s previous school(s) or the district’s administrative office.

CSMTech was founded in 1994, and now enjoys more than 20 years of growth and development. It is a science, mathematics and technology academy (STEM program), where learning is celebrated! It is an integrated program with acceleration within the courses. Students learn technology tools in their first and second year with CSMTech, which carry them through the program. Math and the sciences are taught in an integrated curriculum, demonstrating real world applications and connections. Students who attend this program are excited about math and science and love the atmosphere, that "learning is cool."

Before beginning the application, it is important to review the following section to prepare for your application and to allow you time to gather the necessary documents. 

Preparing For Your Application

Please have the following ready before beginning your application:

• Student Demographic Information (name, phone, email address etc.)
• Student Essay
  • This section of the application should be completed by the student. This is an important part of the application process.  Read the instructions carefully.

Respond to the following:

Part A

Please describe yourself with regard to the following criteria:

• An expressed interest in mathematics, science or technology.
• An Interest in problem solving.
• Responsible, self-directed learning capabilities.
• An inquisitive and curious nature.
• An ability to work in an active, cooperative, learning environment.

Part B

Please share with us your feelings about the following:

• What you expect to accomplish during the program.
• Why you should be considered for this program.

Keep your information relevant to the focus areas of mathematics, science and technology. (Note: You may include a list of extracurricular activities, accomplishments, honors, special training, etc.)

• Parent Statement
  • Parent interest and support are critical for success, emotional as well as physical.  Aside from encouraging your student if he/she becomes frustrated with new learning strategies, it may be necessary for you to provide transportation so your student can receive tutoring outside of normal school hours.  The program takes commitment from the entire family.
  • Please describe what you expect your child to gain from CSMTech Academy in terms of personal and educational goals.
• Semester 1 report card

What Happens Next?

• Completed applications are due by 5/6/26 for the 5/13/26 algebra placement test, or 8/7/26 for the 8/13/26 algebra placement test.
• Soon after the placement test, decision letters will be sent to either your home address or email.
• If your child is accepted into the program, you must enroll him or her with the district. 
• If you fail to complete the new student enrollment process within the timeline provided, your child will be automatically dropped from the open enrollment program.

What happens now?

• Decision letters will be sent via email as they are reviewed and decided upon.
• If your child is accepted into the program, you must enroll him or her with the district.  You must contact your student's assigned counselor and verify your student has been enrolled in the appropriate Career Tech Education courses for the upcoming school year.
• If you fail to complete the new student enrollment process within the timeline provided, your child will be automatically dropped from the open enrollment program.
