Summer Update - 2022 Bond

Clarkston Community Schools students and staff are grateful for the community’s support in passing the 2022 bond proposal. The $197,000,000 bond will fund projects in three key areas:  safety and security, aging building systems, and a new junior high.

Proposed safety and security improvements include building air quality, providing air conditioning in classrooms, ADA upgrades, door hardware replacements, building card access controls, additional generator circuits for life safety systems, and fire alarm system replacements. Additionally, bond funds will be used to address the most critical aging building systems based on the district’s long-term facilities plan.

The biggest bond project is the construction of a new junior high school. The new building will replace the 63-year-old building on the existing site. It will provide larger classrooms to support innovative and collaborative learning, improve ADA accessibility, and improve traffic flow while preserving and updating the current auditorium and construction trades areas.

Since the passing of the bond in November, the district facilities team has been working closely with the architecture and construction firms to solidify plans for all projects. Updates on the more significant projects include:

  • HVAC projects are scheduled to start in 2024 with Andersonville, Clarkston Elementary, North Sashabaw, and Sashabaw Middle School. Then in the summer of 2025, Bailey Lake, Independence, Pine Knob, and Springfield Plains will be completed.
  • The new junior high is currently in the design process and is expected to begin in the summer of 2024. The construction will be in phases, with the anticipated completion of the summer of 2029.
