CJHS Construction Taking Shape
Clarkston Community Schools ceremoniously broke ground at Clarkston Junior High School on May 20, 2024, marking the official start of construction for the new junior high school. Since the end of the school year, grounds and construction crews have been on-site working through the first of four phases.
Phase 1 Underway
It has only been a few months, but things are moving quickly, and it will look quite different when students and staff return to school on August 26. The school’s main entrance and office have moved to what used to be the auditorium entrance and box office, and the turf installation on the athletic field will be complete. Additionally, construction on the new gymnasium will be underway in the large courtyard area in front of the school.
Construction During the School Year & Safety
Work will continue throughout the school year to complete the new gymnasium, an addition to the mechanical room, and other necessary site work. When developing the construction plans for the new junior high, district administration and AUCH Construction have kept the safety of students and staff at the forefront. They have met multiple times with the State Building Inspector and State Fire Marshal to ensure all necessary measures are taken. Some of those measures include barricading the areas under construction with proper separation and protection and creating paths of egress for students and staff within the impacted areas. Additionally, crews will only have access to the construction area and cannot enter the main school where students and staff conduct their school day.
CJHS & Clarkston Elementary Traffic
With all of the site changes and construction, there will be temporary and permanent changes to the traffic flow on the Clarkston Elementary and CJHS campus. The ultimate plan will elevate congestion, separate school buses from the parent drop-off traffic, and create safer pedestrian routes. This too will be a phased process. For this year, the changes are minimal impacting the CJHS parent and bus drop-off locations.
HVAC Projects
HVAC renovations and installations at Andersonville, Clarkston, and North Sashabaw elementary schools are on track to be completed by the start of the school year. Additionally, Sashabw Middle School will be ready, with the exception of the sixth-grade gym and upper gym/fitness room. These areas will be outfitted with air conditioning in the spring.
As the work of the 2022 Bond continues, CCS will keep the community informed. Once again, thank you to the entire CCS community. None of these projects would be possible without your unwavering support.
