Board of Education Seat Vacancy
Clarkston Community Schools Board President Greg Need announced today the resignation of Board Trustee Kelli Horst, effective immediately. Mrs. Horst is moving out of Clarkston later this month to join her husband, who has been working out of town since early 2022. This letter follows her announcement at the Board meeting on July 10 to resign on August 10 after fulfilling her obligation to assist with the presidential transition and participate in the 2022-2023 superintendent evaluation.
“Representing the parents and citizens of Clarkston has been a great privilege. I wish [President Need], Dr. Ryan, and the Board continued wisdom and vision as [they] lead Clarkston Community Schools in the coming years.” Mrs. Horst wrote in her letter to President Need dated August 10, 2023.
"We extend our heartfelt gratitude to Mrs. Horst for her exceptional dedication and unwavering commitment during her tenure on the board of education. Her dedication and vision have greatly enriched our educational community. Times have not always been easy, but with her leadership, our focus remained on what was best for our students,” said Board President Greg Need. “We wish her and her husband the best on this next chapter in their lives.”
Mrs. Horst was elected to the Board in 2014. She has served as trustee, treasurer, secretary, vice president, and president during her tenure.
Per Board Policy 0142.5, the Board must appoint a trustee to fill the vacancy within 30 days. The Board will interview candidates at a public meeting at 5 p.m., Monday, August 28, in the Community Room in the Administration Building. If necessary, there will be a second evening of interviews on August 29. Following the interviews, the board will select an appointee. Interested candidates should complete the online Board of Education Candidate Questionnaire and submit a letter stating their reasons for applying to Board President Greg Need at gneed@clarkston.k12.mi.us or at the Administration Building at 6389 Clarkston Road no later than 5 p.m. on Thursday, August 24, 2023.
The next regular Board of Education meetings are at 7 p.m. on Monday, September 11, and Monday, October 9, 2023.
