Be the Light Freedge is Up and Running!

The Be the Light program has expanded again — this time with a new community refrigerator, freezer, and pantry that’s open 24 hours a day, seven days a week!

Located outside Renaissance High School at 6558 Waldon Road, the Be the Light Freedge invites everyone to give what you can and take what you need. It’s a simple way for neighbors to share food, reduce waste, and support one another. Families can stop by anytime to pick up fresh, frozen, or shelf-stable foods.

This project came to life through incredible collaboration and generosity. Funding and donations from the Farm Bureau Insurance of Michigan Agent Charitable Fund, Rouland Insurance Agency, and GE General Electric made it possible, while Clarkston Construction Technology students built the Freedge structure, and the Clarkston Foundation provided the supplies. Together with the Be the Light team, these partners helped create something truly special for our community.

“Our goal with Be the Light is to meet families where they are, with compassion and dignity,” said Staci Puzio, who coordinates the program for Clarkston Community Schools. “The Freedge adds a simple but powerful layer of support. It brings our community together through the kindness of neighbors helping neighbors.”

Community members are encouraged to donate unopened, labeled perishable and non-perishable foods such as fresh produce, dairy, frozen meals, and canned goods. Donation guidelines are posted on-site, and all contributions are welcome.

Give what you can. Take what you need.
