Media Center Hours and Program
  • The Media Center is open to parents and students from 8:30 am to 3:50 pm every day that students are in school.
  • Each classroom visits the Media Center on a fixed schedule every week for book check-out.  In addition, students are welcome at any other time with their teacher's permission.
  • Each class receives instruction with Mrs. Gordon on a fixed schedule for 30 minutes per week.
  • The remaining time left in the week is available for flexible scheduling to allow collaborative planning between classroom teachers and the media specialist, as well as open space for small group work.
Book Check-out Guidelines
  • Students in Kindergarten and First grade are allowed to check out one book or magazine per visit.
  • Students in Second and Third grade are allowed to check out two books per visit.
  •  Students in Fourth and Fifth grade are allowed to check out three books per visit.
  • The loan period for all students is one week.
  •  Parents are welcome to visit and check out books at any time.   Please let us know that you are here, and we will be glad to help you.  The loan period for parent check-outs is two weeks.

Overdue Policies
  • WE DO NOT CHARGE OVERDUE FINES.  However, if a book is lost or damaged, we do charge a fee to replace or repair the book.  Please read the overdue notices carefully.  We try to issue those notices every other week.
  •  If a student has a book overdue for a month or longer, they will not be allowed to check out anything until that overdue book is paid for or returned.
  •  Sometimes books are lost and paid for, and then later found.  If the item is returned to the Media Center prior to September 15 of the following school year, a refund will be issued.  Books returned after that date will not be refunded, as the money will have been used toward a replacement book.
  • The Key to Student Achievement

Across the United States, research has shown that students in schools with good school libraries learn more, get better grades, and score higher on standardized test scores than their peers in schools without libraries.  (Source: School Libraries Work! Research Foundation Paper. Scholastic Library Publishing, 2008.)

A study in 1992 by the Colorado Department of Education found the highest achieving students come from schools with good school libraries. Increased funding for school library media centers affects teaching and learning in the school. (Source: Haycock, Ken.  What Works, Rockland Press, 1992)

Students in schools with well-equipped library media centers and professional library media specialists will perform better on achievement tests for reading comprehension and basic research skills.  (Source: Haycock, Ken.  What Works, Rockland Press, 1992)
