	Algebra I + CMP 8 Curriculum

Curriculum Goals

The CMP 8 + Algebra I course will be challenging course that will cover both the CMP 8 curriculum as well as Algebra I in the course of three trimesters.

The course is designed to be challenging and will meet the needs of students who would like to complete both the 8^th grade math curriculum and Algebra I in one year.

Potential Curriculum Pacing

Thinking With Mathematical Models CMP and Chapters 3, 4 and 5 Algebra Linear and inverse functions.

Looking for Pythagoras CMP Pythagorean Theorem

Growing, Growing, Growing CMP and Chapter 7 Algebra exponential relationships

Frogs, Fleas and Painted Cubes CMP and Chapters 9 and 10 Algebra quadratic relationships

Say It With Symbols and Chapter 8 Algebra equivalent expressions, order of operations, solving linear and simple quadratic equations, introduction to functions

The Shapes of Algebra and Chapter 6 Algebra Systems of Equations

The following is a list of the books to be used and the objectives to be covered:

Thinking With Mathematical Models Introduction to functions; slope; find the equation of a line

Looking for Pythagoras Pythagorean Theorem (irrational numbers, connecting coordinates, slope, distance and area)

Say It With Symbols Algebraic reasoning (equivalent expressions, order of operations, solving linear and simple quadratic equations)

The Shapes of Algebra Equations of Circles and Systems of Equations

Kaleidoscopes, Hubcaps and Mirrors Geometry, Symmetry and Transformations. (Students will not be issued this book, but will use resources from it.)
