Answers
1)  Q Why Gmail?
A
Google Education Edition is free to school districts. It includes not only Gmail, but Google Docs and Calendar as well. It will allow us to provide email to our staff and to most of our students as well. It will also facilitate document sharing and collaboration.
2)  Q Can I access my email from home?
A
Yes. Because Gmail is a web-based system you can access it from wherever you have Internet access.
3)  Q How do I sign in to the new email system?
A
From the CCS District Home page go to Employee Center. Then select the CCS Email System link. At the sign-in page, enter your new username and password.
4)  Q Is the new email system secure?
A
The gmail system is as secure as any email system. It is very important to remember that email should never be considered 100% private or confidential. You should always assume that someone that you did not intend to see your email message will see it.
5)  Q How much does Gmail cost the district?
A
Gmail is free to the school district.
6)  Q How can I get a tutorial on Gmail?
A
There are tutorials available on Youtube (search for "gmail overview") and on the AtomicLearning.com website. You can click the Help link in gmail to access the Gmail Help Center. From there you can search for information on many Gmail topics. The Technology Services department will be creating specific tutorials and will make them available on the district Technology website.
7)  Q Is there a spam filter in Gmail?
A
Yes. Google prides itself on providing a robust spam filter in gmail. That being said, you may still receive some unsolicited email messages. If you do receive these messages, be sure to click the "report spam" button located at the top of your inbox. Also, continue to practice safe computing and don't enter your email address on web sites unless you are sure it will not be misused..
8)  Q What if I get spam in my new email account?
A
There is a button on the email screen that says "Report spam." If you receive unsolicited "spam" email, click this button.
9)  Q Can I retract an email message that I have sent by mistake?
A
Because the Gmail system is a 3rd-party, web-based system we do not have the ability to retract email messages once they are sent. This is a feature that may become available in the future.
10)  Q What is happening to all my old email messages? What about my folders?
A
Your GroupWise email messages will be transferred to the new system. Any folder you had in GroupWise will be converted to a Gmail Label, and that label will be applied to any message that was in that folder.
11)  Q How do I get rid of messages in my Inbox?
A
In Gmail you have two choices. If you are sure you do not want or need the message any longer, you can delete it. Deleted messages go into the Trash folder for 30 days before being permanently deleted. If you think you may need/want to refer to the message in the future, you can archive it by clicking the archive button. Archived messages are removed from the Inbox but can be viewed by selecting the "All Mail" label. It's a good idea to apply a meaningful label to a message before archiving it.
12)  Q Why does it say "Melanie, me (2)" in the From column?
A
Gmail organizes your messages into conversations. This saves a lot of screen space in your inbox. So as people reply to messages you've sent, you see only one entry in your inbox that represents all the related messages. If you see "Melanie, me (4)" you know that Melanie started the conversation, you were the last one to send a message and there are four (4) messages in the conversation. If someone replies to an email that you had previously viewed, it will be re-bolded in your inbox.
